| Obverse description | Laureate and draped bust of King Charles III facing right, rendered in high relief in the neoclassical portrait style introduced by the Bust coinage series. The monarch's hair is tied at the back with a ribbon and adorned with a laurel wreath, his armored and draped shoulders visible below. The circular legend CAROLUS III DEI GRATIA arcs around the periphery, interrupted by the mint date 1787 positioned in the lower exergual area between two pellets.
