Obverse description Central device comprising a radiant sun face with long alternating straight and wavy rays emanating from a round facial disk rendered in relief at center of the field. Five six-pointed stars are arranged in an arc above the solar device. The circular legend REPUB. SUD PERUANA is inscribed along the upper periphery, while the denomination 8 R., the mint name CUZCO, and the date appear in the lower portion of the legend, all within a beaded border.

Reverse description A complex allegorical composition at center depicts a crenellated tower or fortress to the left, a sailing ship with a cross atop its mast in the upper center, an erupting volcano to the upper right, and a cornucopia issuing fruit and foliage at the base. These four emblems, representing the states of the Peru-Bolivian Confederation, are enclosed within a wreath of laurel and olive branches tied at the base. The circular legend FIRME POR LA UNION arcs along the upper periphery, while fineness indicators 10 D. 20 G., the word CONFEDERACION, and the assayer initials B.A. appear along the lower periphery within a beaded border.
