Obverse description Central field dominated by the crowned royal cipher of Gustav Vasa, consisting of an interlaced Gothic 'G' surmounted by a royal crown in high relief. The date is divided at either side of the monogram, with the first two digits of the year appearing to the left and the final two digits to the right of the cipher. The design is struck on a square flan with characteristic klippe format, showing the bold, somewhat crude workmanship typical of mid-sixteenth-century Swedish hammered coinage.
