| Obverse description | Laureate and draped bust of Ferdinand VII facing right, occupying the central field. The mint mark 'P.' appears to the left of the bust and the denomination numeral '8' to the right. The date 1823 is placed in the lower portion of the legend, flanked by dots. A circular Latin legend runs along the periphery reading FERDIN · VII · D · G · ET C · HISP · REX, identifying the monarch as King of the Spains by the grace of God. The portrait is rendered in a neoclassical style characteristic of early nineteenth-century Spanish copper coinage. |
