| Obverse description | Central field occupied by the crowned Portuguese royal arms, displaying the characteristic quinas arrangement with five escutcheons in cross formation, each bearing five bezants, set within a decorative cartouche surmounted by an elaborate royal crown. Flanking the shield are scrolled mantling ornaments with foliate detail. The circumferential legend in Latin reads in full around the coin, identifying the joint regents Maria I and Peter III by their royal titles and dominions. |
