| Obverse description | Helmeted head of Athena facing left, rendered in fine Hellenistic style with well-modelled facial features. The goddess wears a Corinthian helmet pushed back on her head, its bowl decorated with a flowing horsehair crest trailing to the right. Wavy locks of hair emerge from beneath the helmet and fall along the neck, framing the face. A beaded necklace is visible at the truncation of the neck. The field is plain, with no surrounding legend. |

| Reverse description | A large sixteen-rayed star or wheel device dominates the field, radiating from a central boss or pellet, with the rays rendered as alternating plain and feathered or forked spokes, giving a dynamic, sunburst-like appearance. The ethnic legend ΣΥΡΑΚΟΣΙΩΝ arcs along the upper field in bold Greek letters. Below the central device, within the lower portion of the star, appear the magistrate's control marks ΥΑ flanked by Σ to the left and Λ to the right, serving as mint control symbols. The design is characteristic of the Fifth Democracy coinage of Syracuse, struck in the final years before the Roman conquest. |
