| Beschrijving keerzijde | Central field features a two-line Arabic inscription denoting the mint name and the AH date, enclosed within an ogival floral or leaf-shaped cartouche. A decorative ornament or rosette appears at the top of the cartouche. The inscription records the place of striking as Tunis (تونس) and the Hijri year 1228, with the numeral appearing below. The cartouche is surrounded by a plain inner field, itself enclosed by a beaded border running along the full coin periphery, consistent with other Tunisian billon issues of this period. |

Tunisia's billon coinage of this period reflects the Husainid beys' careful navigation of nominal Ottoman suzerainty — Mahmud II's tughra appeared on these issues as required, while the Tunis mint operated with substantial autonomy. The kharub denomination itself was a distinctly Tunisian monetary unit, not replicated across the broader Ottoman system.
Billon quality varied considerably across this window of production, and surviving pieces frequently show uneven alloy distribution from inconsistent blanking practices at the Tunis mint.
