| Obverse description | Central field displays the crowned rampant lion of Jülich-Berg, facing left within a beaded inner circle. The lion is rendered in the bold, somewhat crude style characteristic of hammered billon coinage of the mid-17th century. The date appears integrated within the circumferential Latin legend. The peripheral inscription reads MONE·IVLIA·ET·MONT·1663·, denoting the monetary authority of the duchies of Jülich and Berg. The overall flan is irregular in shape, typical of hand-hammered production at the Düsseldorf mint. |
