Obverse description Large ornate interlaced royal cypher 'C' for Duke Charles I, rendered in elaborate baroque calligraphic style, occupying the majority of the coin's field. The cypher is surmounted by a princely crown with arched points and decorative scrollwork. Small ornamental rosette devices appear within the design. The field is otherwise plain with no surrounding legend.
