| Obverse description | The elaborate calligraphic tughra of King Mohammed Zahir Shah occupies the central field, rendered in the traditional Ottoman-influenced style with bold sweeping strokes and interlaced letterforms. A religious invocation in Arabic script appears in the upper right field. A curved Arabic legend along the lower portion of the field reads 'Da Afghanistan Shahanshahi' (Kingdom of Afghanistan). The entire design is enclosed within a finely beaded border. |
