| Obverse description | Laureate bust of Emperor Franz Joseph I facing right, rendered with characteristic full moustache and voluminous side-whiskers extending to the neck, executed in a refined classical style by engraver Josef Tautenhayn. The emperor's effigy occupies the central field with fine portrait detail typical of the Vienna Mint's high-quality gold coinage. A circular legend surrounds the bust, reading FRANCISCVS·IOSEPHVS·I·D·G·IMPERATOR·ET·REX, identifying the monarch by Latin imperial title. The truncation of the bust is plain, without additional marks. The overall composition reflects the neoclassical tradition of mid-19th century Austrian numismatic portraiture. |
