| Obverse description | The Portuguese coat of arms, rendered as a stylized armillary sphere encircling the national shield, is depicted at center, set within a radiating sunburst of elongated rays that extends across the entire field. The left half of the field is mirror-polished while the right half features a deeply frosted, star-speckled dark background evoking a night sky, creating a dramatic two-tone contrast. The legend REPÚBLICA PORTUGUESA curves along the left inner border, with the denomination 8 euro inscribed in large characters at lower left. The engraver's signature JJ Brito and the mint mark INCM appear at the bottom of the field near the rim. |
