背面描述 A full-length allegorical female figure, representing the Constitution or Justice, stands facing in the central field, clad in classical robes. To her left rests a large stone tablet inscribed with text referencing constitutional law, and to her right a horn of plenty or fasces. The denomination 21 Qs. is inscribed in the lower exergue. The surrounding legend reads IGUALDAD ANTE LA LEI separated by bullet points from the denomination and fineness indicators 8E · M · L, distributed around the upper periphery.

附加信息

By 1849, Chile was actively debating a wholesale reform of its colonial-era currency system, and this copper pattern for an 8 escudos denomination was almost certainly struck as part of that internal evaluation. The escudo coinage was already moribund — silver and gold issues had been erratic since the 1820s, and the denomination itself would be swept away entirely when Chile decimalized in 1851, replacing the escudo with the peso at a rate of ten reales to one peso.

Copper patterns from the Casa de Moneda de Santiago in this period are genuinely scarce institutional artifacts rather than collector pieces struck with distribution in mind.
