Fernando VII never set foot in the Americas, yet his profile was struck on gold coinage across the Spanish colonial mints for over a decade — much of it during years when the royalist grip on Peru was actively contested by independence forces. Lima remained under Crown control longer than most colonial centers, which is precisely why this series continued into 1824, the year Bolívar's victory at Ayacucho effectively ended Spanish rule on the continent. Coins dated that final year were struck while the political situation was already irretrievable.

The JP assayer mark appearing on Lima issues of this period denotes Joaquín Primo, active through the terminal years of the series.
