正面描述 Central field bears the quartered royal arms of Spain — comprising castles (Castile), lions (León), the diagonal stripes (Aragon), and the fleur-de-lis escutcheon of the Bourbon dynasty — surmounted by an elaborate royal crown with floral decoration. The mint mark 'M' with assayer initials 'MJ' appears to the left of the shield, and the denomination '8' to the right. The circular Latin legend reads 'PHILIPPVS V D GRATI' interrupted by the shield, with 'VS' completing the legend at the base, separated by rosette stops. The entire design is enclosed within a milled border.

附加信息

Felipe V was fighting for his throne in 1710 — quite literally. The War of Spanish Succession had turned decisively against him that year, with Archduke Charles's forces taking Madrid itself in September, briefly installing a rival court. The Madrid mint fell into enemy hands during this occupation, making regular production that year fragmented and administratively chaotic. Coins attributable to this precise moment are consequently rare, and provenance questions around 1710 Madrid strikes are legitimate rather than pedantic.

Cal#74 is among the scarcer listings in Calicó's reference for this reign and mint combination.
