| Reverse description | A bold, large cross potent with flared terminals dominates the central field, dividing the design into four quadrants each containing a stylized lion passant or castle, consistent with the quartered arms of Castile and León. The cross is set within a double tressure or inner circle formed by an ornate beaded border. The partial outer legend HISPANIARUM REX with the date 1703 runs around the periphery, though characteristically partially off-flan. Small floral or star ornaments appear in the spaces between the cross arms and the border, in keeping with Madrid mint practice of the early Felipe V period. |
