Obverse description Draped bust of King Charles III of Spain facing right, depicted in elaborate armour with decorative collar and a flowing queue tied with a ribbon, engraved in the neoclassical portrait style introduced by Jerónimo Antonio Gil at the Mexico City Mint. The effigy occupies the central field with fine detail in the hair and garments. The circumferential legend reads CAROL·III·D·G· / HISP·ET·IND·R·, separated by pellets, commencing at the lower left and continuing around the periphery. The date 1770 appears in the lower exergual area, flanked by pellets. The entire design is bordered by a closely reeded rim, characteristic of the milled coinage reform of New Spain.
