Obverse description Armored and draped bust of Charles III facing right, rendered in the style inherited from his reign though struck under Carlos IV, as indicated by the regnal legend. The effigy depicts the king with a curled, powdered wig and elaborately draped armor with lace cravat. The circular legend is divided by the bust, with the date 1790 prominently displayed in the exergue below. The portrait retains the elder monarch's likeness as engraved for the Mexican Mint series, a transitional convention common in the first years of Carlos IV's reign.
