Obverse description Armored and draped bust of King Carlos III facing right, with curled wig, occupying the majority of the field. The peripheral legend reads CAROL III D G HISP ET IND R, interrupted by the portrait, with the date 1787 appearing in the lower exergual area flanked by two pellets. The coin exhibits a milled border with fine reeding visible at the rim.

Reverse description The crowned quartered arms of Spain — bearing castles and lions with the Bourbon escutcheon of fleurs-de-lis at center — displayed within an elaborately rendered wreath of laurel and palm branches tied at the base with a bow. The denomination numeral 8 appears to the left of the shield and the assayer initials MI to the right, with the Lima mint mark ME visible at the base below the shield. The encircling legend reads NITRO·Q·FELIX·AUSPICE·DEO, separated by pellet stops.
