Aanvullende informatie

Carlos III inherited the Spanish throne in 1759 after his half-brother Fernando VI died without an heir, arriving from Naples where he had ruled as king for twenty-five years. The Mexico City mint was the most prolific gold producer in the Spanish empire, and the transition to a new monarch's coinage required re-engraving dies mid-production cycle — meaning pieces struck across the 1760–1761 window can show transitional die characteristics reflecting the rushed changeover in assayer combinations.

The assayer marks on these pieces are the primary diagnostic for attribution within this short window. Mo assayer J. Zelaya held the position during this period.
