| Obverse description | Central device depicts the early arms of the Chilean Republic: a range of mountains with two volcanoes flanking a radiant sun rising above the peaks, enclosed within a laurel and oak wreath tied at the base. Below the mountains, a tablet bears the date A.D 1818. The circular legend reads EL ESTADO DE CHILE CONSTIT·INDEPENDIENTE A.DE 1818, distributed around the periphery within a beaded border. The overall design is rendered in low relief with fine engraving characteristic of early Republican coinage. |
