| Obverse description | Central field dominated by the elaborate quartered coat of arms of the Archbishopric of Salzburg, surmounted by a mitre and flanked by decorative supporters. Above the shield, the full-length figure of Saint Rupert, patron of Salzburg, is depicted in pontifical vestments, holding a crozier in his left hand; a halo encircles his head. The Latin legend SANCTVS RVDBERTV EPS SALISBV runs along the outer border in a beaded circle, identifying the saint as Bishop of Salzburg. The heraldic composition is rendered in a bold, late Renaissance style typical of Salzburg mint production under Archbishop Wolf Dietrich von Raitenau. |
