| Reverse description | Saint Rupert of Salzburg, the patron saint and first bishop of Salzburg, is depicted enthroned in full pontifical vestments, wearing a mitre and richly draped robes rendered in fine relief. In his right hand he raises a crozier, and in his left he holds a saltcellar, his traditional iconographic attribute referencing the salt trade wealth of the archbishopric. He is seated on an ornate throne with architectural side elements visible at either flank. A beaded inner border frames the figure, with a circular Latin legend in the outer border reading SANCTVS RVDBERTVS EPVS SALZBVRGEN, identifying the saint and his see. |
