| 裏面の説明 | Richly detailed right-facing bust of Holy Roman Emperor Franz I, wigged in elaborate Baroque fashion with a laureate wreath, wearing armour with ornate pauldron and an imperial collar decorated with jewelled chain links. The portrait is rendered in high relief with finely engraved details on the armour and lace cravat. The engraver's signature I. L. OEXLEIN appears below the bust truncation. The encircling Latin legend identifies the emperor by his imperial titles. |

Regensburg occupied a peculiar position in the Holy Roman Empire — a free imperial city that hosted the Immerwährender Reichstag, the permanent imperial diet that sat continuously from 1663 until Napoleon dissolved the Empire in 1806. The city's right to strike high-denomination multiples like this 8-ducat piece derived directly from its imperial status, and such issues were produced less for commerce than for diplomatic presentation and the gift-giving that lubricated diet proceedings.
Fr#2523 spans a twenty-year production window, suggesting these were struck intermittently against specific occasions rather than routine output. Survivors vary considerably in surface quality for that reason — some show no handling at all.
