| Obverse description | Central field features the Basel basilisk — a crowned, winged serpentine creature with a cockerel's head — displayed in high relief, standing amid a cluster of eight small shield-shaped arms representing the allied cantons of the Swiss Confederation. An oval cartouche bearing a Basel mint mark or initial mark is positioned among the shields at the center-left. The encircling Latin legend reads DOMINE CONSERVA NOS IN PACE, separated by small rosette stops, with the reeded border framing the entire composition in the Baroque manner characteristic of early eighteenth-century Swiss municipal coinage. |
