| Beschrijving voorzijde | The sixth and final effigy of Queen Elizabeth II, designed as a memorial portrait, faces right displaying a crowned bust adorned with the George IV State Diadem and the Victorian Coronation Necklace. The legend encircling the effigy reads 'ELIZABETH II 1952 - 2022' above, denoting her years of reign, with 'AUSTRALIA 2023' and the denomination '8 DOLLARS' completing the inscription around the field. This portrait, struck posthumously as a commemorative tribute, renders the Queen's likeness with fine engraved detail against a mirror-polished proof field. The design reflects the solemn dignity of the memorial issue, distinguishing it from earlier circulation portraits in the series. |

The Swan series is one of Perth Mint's longer-running bullion programs, but the sixth portrait of Elizabeth II makes 2023 a transitional year by default — she died in September 2022, meaning this coin was struck posthumously under an effigy that had barely entered circulation before the reign ended. Perth Mint had already tooled for the sixth portrait, introduced in 2022, and continued its use through existing inventory obligations rather than immediately retooling for Charles III.
The five-ounce format occupies an awkward commercial tier: too heavy for casual stacking, too common for serious numismatic attention.
