| 裏面の説明 | A detailed high-relief depiction of the main façade of the Sé Catedral (Cathedral of the Nativity of Our Lady) in Macau, rendered in a neoclassical architectural style with pilasters, arched doorways, and a classical pediment. The central portal features a tall colored stained-glass window depicting the Virgin Mary crowned with a halo, hands folded in prayer, with two angels below, all executed in polychrome enamel. A bell tower rises to the left and a clock tower to the right of the main body. In the upper field, the dedicatory Latin inscription D. O M. J.C. SS.M V.MAEIAE NASCENTI. appears against a dark sky. Below the architectural view, the legends SÉ CATEDRAL, the Chinese characters 聖母誕辰主教座堂, MACAU, and 2020 appear in the exergue. |

The Sé Catedral in Macau — formally the Cathedral of the Nativity of Our Lady — was built by the Portuguese in the sixteenth century and survived long enough to become one of the oldest functioning Catholic churches in East Asia. Macau's formal handover to China in 1999 raised genuine questions about the status of its religious institutions, yet the diocese has operated without meaningful interruption. Solomon Islands has no historical connection to Macau whatsoever; the coin exists because the islands' mint licensing arrangement generates revenue, and Macau's colonial architecture sells reliably to the themed collector bullion market.
