Obverse description The obverse bears the mature effigy of Queen Elizabeth II facing right, as engraved by Susan Taylor, depicting the monarch at 77 years of age with bare head, wearing a necklace and earrings. The legend ELIZABETH II D·G·REGINA arcs along the upper periphery in Latin script. The portrait is rendered in a refined, high-relief style consistent with the fourth definitive effigy used on Canadian coinage from 2003 onward.

Additional information

The "Dragon Luck" issue belongs to the Royal Canadian Mint's long-running series of bullion and collector pieces marketed toward Chinese-Canadian communities and export markets in Asia, where demand for dragon-themed silver has sustained a cottage industry among Western mints since the early 2000s. The eight-dollar denomination is not accidental — eight is the most auspicious number in Chinese numerology, associated with wealth and prosperity.

Struck in .9999 fine silver rather than the more common .999, a standard the RCM has maintained on its fine silver collector issues since the 1990s.
