Australia's lunar series coinage has been a Perth Mint staple since 1996, with the Rooster year falling in the second full cycle. The 2017 issue was struck to a mintage cap of 8,000 pieces worldwide — modest by bullion standards, tight enough to matter for the series collector. At five troy ounces of four-nines fine silver, it sits above the standard one-ounce issues that dominate the secondary market.
The fourth portrait of Elizabeth II, sculpted by Ian Rank-Broadley, was already approaching the end of its official use by 2017; Jody Clark's fifth portrait had been adopted by the Royal Mint in 2015, though Australian coins continued with Rank-Broadley considerably longer.
