Obverse description Ultra high relief effigy of King Charles III, uncrowned and facing left, rendered in the first portrait by engraver Dominic Tassell. The king is depicted with a draped bust, his facial features and hair rendered in fine sculptural detail against a mirror-polished field. The legend CHARLES III arcs along the upper left periphery and AUSTRALIA along the upper right, with the denomination 8 DOLLARS inscribed along the lower arc. Two raised dots flank the denomination, and the engraver's initials DT appear discreetly at the truncation. The gilded rim adds a striking contrast to the frosted effigy.
