The wedge-tailed eagle series from Perth has become one of the more technically demanding ongoing silver programs in Australian coinage, with high-relief strikes of this size requiring multiple presses at reduced speed to push metal fully into the recessed die cavities. At 155.5 grams of .9999 silver, the planchet itself presents feeding and alignment challenges that flatly struck bullion blanks do not.
2024 marks the first year this series carries the Ian Rank-Broadley replacement portrait of Charles III, commissioned following the accession in September 2022.
