Obverse description Central shield bearing the arms of Geneva — a crowned eagle in the dexter half and a key in the sinister half — surrounded by a circular legend and date. The shield is surmounted by a decorative crown. The legend GENEVA·CIVITAS with the date reads around the periphery in Latin characters. The overall style is characteristic of early seventeenth-century Swiss municipal coinage executed by the hammered technique.
