Gowri Parvathi Bayi ascended as regent of Travancore in 1815 at around sixteen years of age, governing on behalf of her younger brother until his majority. Her coinage is among the rarest of the Travancore series precisely because her regency lasted only until 1829 — a narrow window that kept total production volumes low. The KM#12 copper issues circulated in a kingdom that maintained unusual fiscal independence from the East India Company under the subsidiary alliance framework, managing its own mint and monetary affairs longer than most princely states of comparable size.
