Obverse description Central field features a trident (trishula), the sacred emblem of Travancore, flanked by decorative scrollwork. The Malayalam numeral date 991 (corresponding to 1816 AD in the Gregorian calendar, derived by adding 825 to the Malayalam Era year) appears below the trident in the lower field. The coin is struck within a beaded border encircling the entire design.

Reverse description A raised hooded serpent (cobra) is depicted centrally in the field, its hood prominently spread, flanked symmetrically on either side by stylised lotus blooms rendered in low relief. Below the central serpent motif, the Tamil legend reading 'Kasu 8' (denoting the denomination of 8 Cash) is inscribed in two characters within the lower field. The entire design is enclosed within a beaded border consistent with the obverse.
