7500 Forint Batthyány Lajos

Lajos Batthyány served as Hungary's first constitutionally appointed Prime Minister following the April Laws of 1848, which transformed the Habsburg-controlled kingdom into a semi-autonomous constitutional monarchy. His government lasted less than six months before Habsburg military pressure and the escalating revolutionary war made his position untenable. He resigned in September 1848, was arrested by Austrian authorities, and was executed by firing squad on October 6, 1849 — the same morning thirteen Hungarian generals were hanged at Arad. Austrian commanders reportedly ordered the execution carried out with a pistol rather than a rifle after a failed suicide attempt had wounded his neck, making hanging impossible.
