Reverse description The reverse presents a bold architectural composition depicting ancient Roman ruins in the foreground — specifically the surviving Corinthian columns of the Temple of Saturn in the Roman Forum — superimposed before the rounded arched facade of the Colosseum in the middle ground, all rendered in high relief against a deeply mirrored proof field. The circumferential legend CENTENARIO · ROMA · CAPITAL · reads along the upper border, flanked by the dates 1870 at lower left and 1970 at lower right, commemorating the centenary of Rome becoming the capital of unified Italy. The engraver's signature G.M. MONASSI appears incuse along the lower exergue.
