| Additional information |
This coin was issued to commemorate Nasreddin Hoca, the 13th-century Anatolian folk philosopher whose sardonic wit has been recycled across Central Asian and Middle Eastern oral traditions for seven centuries. UNESCO had declared 1996–1997 the International Nasreddin Hoca Year, which directly prompted the Darphane to authorize this release — one of several commemorative programs Turkey produced under that designation.
