Beschrijving voorzijde The face of this Notgeld note carries the issuing authority's text in a clean letterpress layout, identifying the Municipality of Bilsen within the Amt district of Hemdingen. The central field bears the denomination and validity conditions, framed by the authorising inscriptions of the Finance Committee and the District Administrator. The overall design is utilitarian, consistent with the emergency currency issues of the early Weimar period.

Opmerkingen

Bilsen is a small village in Schleswig-Holstein, and its 1921 Notgeld emission belongs to the second wave of German municipal emergency currency — the so-called "Serienscheine" period, when small communities issued pictorial notes as much for collector sale as for actual local exchange. Konrad Hanf of Hamburg was a workhorse printer for this trade, producing runs for dozens of north German municipalities simultaneously.

The 75-Pfennig denomination is an oddity — not a figure that maps neatly onto everyday transactions, which reinforces the suspicion that collector revenue was at least part of the calculation.
