| Obverse description | The obverse is set within a dark border with decorative corner cartouches in red and green. The denomination '75' appears at upper left and 'Pfg' at upper right in bold Gothic lettering, flanking the central title inscription 'Die Stadtsparkasse Paderborn' in large Fraktur script. The lower portion is divided into three panels: the left panel bears a full-length vignette of Charlemagne (Karl d. Paderborn's municipal savings bank — the Stadtsparkasse — was one of hundreds of German local institutions that issued notgeld during the inflationary spiral of the early Weimar years, when the Reichsbank simply could not keep fractional coinage in circulation fast enough. The 75 Pfennig denomination is a peculiar one, rarely seen outside German notgeld issues, and reflects the practical arithmetic of local wages and tram fares rather than any conventional monetary logic.
Fr. Wilh. Ruhfus in Dortmund was a prolific notgeld printer, handling municipal contracts across Westphalia. Designer H. Niedieck's name appears on a number of Ruhfus-printed pieces from this period — likely a staff designer rather than an independent commission.
