Notgeld from the inflation spiral of 1921 came out of hundreds of small German firms and municipalities, but few were printed by their issuing town's own local press. This one was — C. Fränckel Nchfg. C. Will was an Oldenburg in Holstein print shop, not a specialist currency printer, and the design credit to Wilhelm Johannsen suggests a purely local commission rather than a borrowed stock plate.
Firma J. Iwersen was a private commercial enterprise issuing its own emergency fractional currency — a legal if chaotic feature of Weimar-era Germany, where the collapse of coin availability forced individual businesses to fill the gap themselves.
