Büdelsdorf, a small industrial town on the Eider River in Schleswig-Holstein, issued this note during the acute small-change shortage that plagued Germany in the early Weimar years. Municipalities across the country were forced to print their own Kleingeldersatz — substitute small change — because hoarding and metal scarcity had stripped coins from everyday commerce. Leck & Rotermundt, a Hamburg commercial printer with a known regional client base, handled the production, with engraving credited to K. G. Richter.
The DeNG reference places this within the third variant of the Büdelsdorf issue, suggesting at least minor typographic or color differences distinguishing the three sub-types.
