Grünberg — now Zielona Góra in western Poland — was a wine-producing town in Lower Silesia, one of the few such regions in Prussia, and its civic identity was bound up in that distinction. This 75 Pfennig note is part of a Notgeld series issued during the acute small-change shortage that gripped Germany in the early Weimar years, when municipal and commercial issuers flooded the market with locally printed emergency fractional currency. The series was designed by Georg Schleinitz, whose name appears on several Silesian Notgeld commissions from this period.
Ratsdruckerei R. Dulce in Glauchau, Saxony handled the printing — a regional commercial press that took on considerable Notgeld work between 1920 and 1922.
