Großwirschleben is a small village in the Bernburg district of Saxony-Anhalt, and its participation in the Kleingeldersatz inflation of 1921 was anything but unusual — hundreds of similarly obscure German municipalities issued Notgeld that year to address the acute shortage of fractional coinage. What distinguishes this note from the mass of interchangeable village scrip is largely a matter of collector series completeness rather than any particular printing or historical drama.
