Monschau's 1921 Notgeld series is among the more artistically deliberate of the Rhineland municipal issues — the city had a clear interest in using emergency scrip as a vehicle for local promotion, and Lütkens was brought in to give the designs a coherent identity. The 75 Pfennig denomination sits in the middle of a series that leaned heavily on the town's medieval textile history and distinctive half-timbered streetscape.
Notgeld at this value was already edging toward the collector market rather than genuine small-change use. By 1921, many municipalities knew philatelists were buying directly from town halls, and print runs were adjusted accordingly.
