A central circular vignette bears the crowned rampant lion of Rudolstadt's civic arms, flanked on either side by smaller circular vignettes each containing a bell; the denomination '75 Pfennig' appears in purple roundels at the lower left and right corners. The date 'Der Stadtrat Rudolstadt, 16. August 1921' is inscribed to the left, with a facsimile mayoral signature 'Der Bürgermeister' to the right, and the serial number is printed in black at the foot. |

Rudolstadt's 1921 Notgeld series was a product of the nationwide small-denomination coin shortage that followed the First World War — municipal and commercial issuers across Germany flooded the market with locally printed emergency scrip between 1919 and 1923. Lorsch & Nachbar, a local Rudolstadt printer, handled this 75 Pfennig piece entirely in-house, making it one of the rarer cases where the issuing city and the press occupied the same town.
