Bodenwerder, a small market town on the Weser in Lower Saxony, is inseparable from Karl Friedrich Hieronymus von Münchhausen, who was born there in 1720 and whose family home still stands on the riverbank. Local Notgeld issues from this municipality leaned heavily into that association — the Münchhausen connection was commercially useful during the 1920–1922 emergency currency wave, when German towns competed aggressively for collector interest to generate premium income beyond face value.
This 75 Pfennig piece belongs to the inflationary Notgeld period, when municipal and private issuers flooded the market partly to meet genuine small-change shortages and partly to exploit philatelic demand. The 75 Pfennig denomination is slightly atypical — most series favored 25, 50, and 1 Mark — suggesting deliberate set-building to encourage collectors to acquire the full run.
