| Opmerkingen |
Kempen am Rhein — not to be confused with the larger Kempen in the Lower Rhine district — issued this 75 Pfennig note during the acute coin shortage that gripped Germany in the immediate postwar period. Municipal Notgeld of this denomination was a practical response to the near-total disappearance of small change from circulation, hoarded or melted as metal values fluctuated wildly against a destabilizing Mark.
The 1920 issues from this issuer are among the more modestly documented Rhineland municipal series, printed in small quantities for genuinely local use rather than the collector-targeted Serienscheine that flooded the market later that same year.
