Opmerkingen

Hofgeismar is a small district town in northern Hesse, and this 75 Pfennig note is a product of the Notgeld wave that swept Germany between 1919 and 1922, when the Reichsbank's inability to supply adequate small-denomination coinage forced savings banks and municipalities to print their own emergency currency. The Kreissparkasse — a district savings bank — had both the institutional standing and the local credibility to issue notes that the public would actually accept and use.

Gebrüder Gotthelft in Cassel was a reliable regional printer responsible for a significant volume of Hessian Notgeld, which means this note shares production characteristics with dozens of other issues from surrounding towns.

The 75 Pfennig denomination is among the less common face values in the series.
