75 Pesetas Guineanas Abraham Lincoln

Equatorial Guinea gained independence from Spain in October 1968, and the new government moved quickly to establish its own currency — the peseta guineana — as a visible break from colonial financial structures. The 1970 silver issues, of which this Lincoln piece is one, were not circulating coinage in any practical sense. They were produced for the international collector market, a revenue strategy common among newly independent African states with limited hard currency reserves.

Lincoln's inclusion alongside other world figures in this series had nothing to do with any particular historical connection to the country.
