Zur Behebung der Hartgeldnot gibt die Gemeinde Steinbach am Ziehberg mit Gemeindebeschluss vom 5. Juni 1920 Gutscheine bis zu einem Gesamtbetrage von 20.000 Kr. aus. Die Gutscheine werden bis 30/11.1920 in gesetzlichen Bargeld beim hiesigen Gemeindeamte eingelöst. Die Gemeinde hastet mit ihrem ganzen Vermögen. Steinbach am Ziehberg 8. Juni 1920. Steinbach am Ziehberg is a small rural commune in the Kirchdorf district of Upper Austria, and this note is a product of the acute coin shortage that paralyzed small-denomination transactions across Austria in the immediate postwar years. The Republic of Austria's new central institutions were in no position to supply adequate coinage, so hundreds of municipalities — many with populations under a thousand — printed their own Notgeld to keep local commerce moving.
J. Haase was a Linz-based printer responsible for a substantial number of Upper Austrian municipal issues during this period. The purple color variant distinguishes this from the other denominations in the Steinbach series.
